WOVEN TOGETHER

The Call

We are a movement that listens, desiring to ‘Be still and know.’ We are a people who pause to see beauty and beckon others to it. We are called to be a family who sews the Kingdom, each of our surrendered lives a thread, following the master’s hand as it interweaves the Kingdom in the people and places He calls us to.

The Invitation

This year, we invite you to participate in ‘Woven Together’ a live art piece. It will be a collective expression of our courage, contribution and surrender to God’s unfolding work. We invite you to take the time to make your mark, to weave and pull threads into a shared fabric. This art piece will provide space to stop and honour your place within this movement and signify the beauty of our collective expression. We will document this process through analogue photography to capture the journey as it unfolds from the first tug to the final tuck.

Reflection

Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is within your grasp."

Luke 17: 21

Invitation

Will you participate in the weaving of the Kingdom.

Will you step forward to grasp and co-create.

Will you allow the Holy Spirit,

to unravel you, to draw together, and pull apart,

trusting each movement, gentle but sure,

embedding the blueprint of the kingdom.

Will you let Him interlace your life, through cultures and nations for His redemptive purpose.

Surrendering yourself to the master weaver,

guiding His image bearers to move their hands with grace, mercy, and justice.

The call is ancient but clear,

it echoes along generational lines,

will you create with me.

Will you offer me your hands, your heart, your life.

Will you create with me

It is within your grasp

Response

Lord I will take my place,

I will create with you.

Here are my hands,

teach me to weave the patterns of your kingdom,

to pull upon the tensions of society that need your hope.

Strengthen my heart,

to draw upon the renewing threads of history,

to sew the past into the present,

knowing you will bring hands to guide it in the future.

Shape my life by your sovereignty,

intertwine storylines,

extending the table,

interdependent and strong.

This beauty cannot unfold without you.

Step forward, reach out your hand and begin ...

Prompts

You are invited to weave in and pull out threads.

This will require your full attention as you can only pull one thread at a time, otherwise the tension on the fabric is too great. Go slowly and gently.

Experiment - Pull on one thread leaving some to hang and create a fringe. Repeat the action and completely remove a thread.

Reveal - Pull out single threads, vertically or horizontally in a sequence. You can vary how many you pull to create a pattern.

Build – Use strips of fabric (in basket below) finding slits to weave in and out of the main fabric.

Create – Look for gaps in the fabric and weave discarded threads (in basket below) into the spaces you see.

Go wild and come up with your own ideas!

This body of work will use analogue photography as a creative and contemplative response to the unfolding acts of making and participation within the space.

Working with film as a slow and intentional medium - the photographs will be informed by what is happening literally and spiritually: the physical gestures of threading and weaving, and the deeper acts of trust, surrender, and co-creation taking place.

Through deliberate photographic techniques the images will seek to embody the wider themes of the project: the interplay between the seen and unseen, the individual mark and the collective whole, the beauty that emerges when we contribute without knowing the final form. These visual refractions will mirror the nature of faith itself – fragmented, layered, holding mystery, yet cohesive in its trust of something greater.

The resulting images will exist as their own artworks, extending the life and language of the project into another medium.

They will invite viewers to reflect on presence, process, and the sacred ordinary moments of making together.

Prints will be available to view and purchase, offering participants and attendees a tangible memory of their collective act of faith and creativity.
